LG502A/B: BEGINNING HEBREW. Mignon R. Jacobs.
DESCRIPTION:
- This introduction to Hebrew is a course designed to introduce
students to the basic vocabulary, grammar, and syntax of the Hebrew Bible.
Students' mastery of these fundamental aspects, along with a working knowledge
of the standard grammatical and lexical reference tools, are expected as
preparation for further exegetical work.
RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY:
- Thorough knowledge of the scriptures is essential to the personal
growth and ministry of the minister. This knowledge is further enhanced by the
ability to work with the original language of the text and to critically assess
the available commentaries and translations of the text.
COURSE FORMAT:
- This two-course sequence-- LG502A (Winter) and LG502B
(Spring)--will meet twice weekly for a total of four hours per week. Students
enrolling for the winter are expected to continue in the spring in the same
section.

- In addition to lexical and grammatical reference tools, books and
articles will be discussed in class and made available to students in order to
facilitate the mastery of the language and to encourage further development of
exegetical skills.
ASSIGNMENTS:
- Weekly preparation and attendance are required parts of the course.
Regular announced quizzes will be given to assess students' vocabulary
acquisition and understanding of grammatical and syntactical features. The
final grade will be based on participation, quizzes, a mid-term, and a final
examination.
PREREQUISITES:
- None.
RELATIONSHIP TO CURRICULUM:
- Two-course sequence meets M. Div. core requirement in Hebrew (HEB).
