NS500: INTRODUCCION EL NUEVO TESTAMENT. Isaac Canales.

DESCRIPTION:

NS500 is an M.Div. core course in Spanish that studies the Gospels. The course will begin with a short review of the Intertestamental period; followed by a study of the unique Gospel genre, and a consideration of the person, life, ministry, and teaching of Jesus. Then attention will be given to the Gospel themselves, including a review of the synoptic problem and a comparative study of the Synoptics and Fourth Gospel. Finally, the contribution of each Gospel will be examined and a coordination of the viewpoints of the four will be attempted.

RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY:
The content and orientation of the Gospels are generally within the context of Jewish oriental Palestine, but these writings circulated in a Greco-Roman world. The Latino student then must become adept in understanding Jesus' message of the kingdom of God given in a multi-cultural context. When the student is able to do this, then adapting Jesus' message to our multicultural world will become a much easier task. This will especially apply to Hispanic/Latino ministers who have to preach, and teach, even in their own churches, to a multiculturally diverse group.

COURSE FORMAT:
The class will meet once weekly on Tuesday mornings for a combination of lecture and discussion.
