EV513: CAMPUS EVANGELIZATION. Scott Young.
DESCRIPTION:
- This course is designed to assist the students' development of a
theology for evangelization in the context of U.S. higher education. The course
will integrate social criticism, university culture profiles, and mission
theology. This is a vigorous attempt to think critically concerning the
Gospel's involvement in one of our society's most dominant institutions, higher
education. Examination of various strategies and models will receive
appropriate attention in the course. Students will be challenged by reading and
on-site campus experiences. The course also seeks to influence the affective
dimension of campus life, nurturing a passion to be participants in
institutional transformation and individual conversion.
RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY:
- Identifying and discerning challenges and opportunities for witness in our
North American culture.
- Developing an informed and reflective theology of evangelization.
- Gaining an understanding of university culture as a microcosm of our
society.
- Acquiring an appreciation and motivation for announcing the Good News as a
central component of discipleship.
COURSE FORMAT:
- This course meets Tuesdays, 3-6 p.m. each week for inquiry and
discussion. Outside reading is required for class discussions and papers.
Campus site visitation is required for class interaction and specific
assignments.

ASSIGNMENTS:
- A journal or story reporting 3 conversations engaging a person(s)
(students, faculty, administrator) with the Gospel on a university/college
campus.
The paper is due: May 6, 1997.
- A 2-3 page paper examining one strategy/model of campus evangelism.
The
paper is due: May 20, 1997.
- A major paper developing the student's theology for evangelism in higher
education.
The paper is due: June 3, 1997.
- Group research and presentation (TBA)

- None.
