PR505: ADVANCED PREACHING SEMINAR. William E. Pannell.
DESCRIPTION:
- This seminar is designed to deepen the theological insights and
sharpen the homiletical skills of students who have already shown a special
aptitude for preaching. Enrollment will not exceed ten students and will
require the instructor's permission.
RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY:
- The spoken word remains an essential means of communicating the
gospel of Jesus Christ. Students who have evidenced a special aptitude for
preaching will be challenged to become more effective in the essential element
in the ministry of the Church.
COURSE FORMAT:
- The seminar will meet four hours a week for instruction, preaching,
assessment, and discussion. Video recordings will be extensively used.

ASSIGNMENTS:
- Three sermons will be preached, videotaped and assessed. A
manuscript or an extensive outline will be submitted when the sermon is
preached along with a "sermon brief" for each student. Written responses to
each sermon will be given. There will also be annotation of the required
reading.
PREREQUISITES:
- PR500, PR511, and permission of the instructor.
RELATIONSHIP TO CURRICULUM:
- Meets M. Div. core requirement in Preaching and Communication (MIN
2).
