CF505: TEACHING THE BIBLE. Julie Gorman.
DESCRIPTION:
- This course is designed to help one learn how to be an effective
teacher of God's Word to youth and adults, and how to enable others to do so.
Teaching children will not be covered in this course. All who are called to
teach need to develop their teaching abilities and learn how to work with the
Holy Spirit in effective teaching of God's Word. Therefore, this course is
designed to enhance one's spiritual gift of teaching and/or call to teach.
The following topics will be covered: The Book we study and teach; the way we
interpret the Bible (a review of hermeneutics); the people we teach--a view of
teaching and learning; the way we teach--principles, method, and skills of
effective teaching, and actual teaching experiences.
RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY:
- Cognitively: the learner will be able to synthesize the principles of
teaching the Bible and be able to relate those principles to other books of the
Bible, other teachers, and to one's own teaching.
- Affectively: the learner will organize the principles of teaching the Bible
into their own value complex regarding the communication of Scripture to
others.
- Behaviorally: the learner will begin to act in accordance with the
principles of teaching the Bible throughout the ten weeks of this course.
- Existentially: the learner will continue to use and communicate to others
the principles of teaching the Bible and will refine those principles by
constant usage and internalization.
COURSE FORMAT:
- Attendance is mandatory and will be figured into one's grade.
Discussion, small group processing, lecture, and out of class assignments will
be used.

class the first day!).
RECOMMENDED READING:
- Listed in Class Syllabus.
ASSIGNMENTS:
- Weekly written assignments. Late assignments accepted only by permission
of teacher.
- Observation and critical report on a Bible teacher of the learner's
choice.
- Two actual teaching experiences on the book of 2 Corinthians during the
quarter. Access to a group in the learner's current setting should be planned
for and established early.
PREREQUISITES:
- None. Recommended either or both: CF504, CF500.
RELATIONSHIP TO CURRICULUM:
- Meets M.Div. core requirement in Christian Formation and
Discipleship (MIN 4).
FINAL EXAMINATION:
- None.
