ST564/TH861: CONTEMPORARY CHRISTOLOGY: SYNOPTIC MIRACLE STORIES. Colin Brown.


DESCRIPTION:

The seminar will investigate the synoptic miracle stories and their significance for the quest of the historical Jesus and contemporary christology. The course is designed as a two-tier seminar sponsored by the Center for Advanced Theological Studies. The upper tier will consist of graduate students working at the Ph.D. and Th.M. levels. The lower tier will consist of advanced M.Div. and M.A. students. Ph.D. and Th.M. students may take this course as either a Theology or a New Testament course.

COURSE FORMAT:
The seminar will meet once a week on Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. for three hours. Each session will be devoted to a topic designated in the seminar outline which will be made available prior to the Fall Quarter.

REQUIRED READING:
Members of the seminar will be expected to have read
John P. Meier, A Marginal Jew: Rethinking the Historical Jesus, 2, Mentor, Message, and Miracles (New York: Doubleday, 1994), 509-933, 950-1038.

ASSIGNMENTS:
Members of the seminar are expected to study the designated readings prior to the class and attend all sessions. Each member will make an oral presentation and write a research paper on an approved topic.

PREREQUISITES:
Students at the M.Div./M.A. level must receive Dr. Brown's permission in order to register.
