OT805: OLD TESTAMENT THEOLOGY SEMINAR (6 Units: 240 hours). Mignon R. Jacobs.

DESCRIPTION: This PhD seminar is a study of Old Testament theology looking at both the history of scholarship and contemporary models of theology. Its emphasis is the examination of the role of the biblical text in the task of OT theology, the intertextual dimensions, and influences of Hebrew and Jewish thought as integral to the construction OT theology.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: The seminar is designed to facilitate the following outcomes: (1) that students acquire knowledge of the area of study; (2) that students demonstrate competency in articulating (verbal and written) the development of scholarship within the area of study; (3) that students evaluate the nature and significance of scholars’ use of the Old Testament text in the construction of their ideas.

COURSE FORMAT: This seminar will meet during three-hour weekly sessions for discussion and reports. Moodle site is included as a part of the course format. This 6-unit seminar requires a minimum of 240 hours (class time, reading & other preparation and various learning activities)

ASSIGNMENTS AND ASSESSMENT: The final grade in the course is based on the following components: Preparation consisting of weekly reading and reports (20%); presentation and review of theological works (30%); a final paper that will be the construction of a theology based on Old Testament texts (50%).
**Prior to the first meeting, students are required to read and prepare a report on the following: Ollenburger, Parts 1 & 2 and the Appendix. Report: a summary of the main issues raised (850-1000 words). Further details will be available on Moodle.
