ST502: SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY 2: CHRISTOLOGY AND SOTERIOLOGY. Chuck Gutenson.

DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to provide the student with a foundation in the Christian beliefs regarding Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and human salvation. Study will cover the church's unfolding articulation of its Christology and pneumatology, with attention to both biblical and historical developments as well as their expressions across cultural and traditional boundaries. Discussions of salvation in Christ will include attention to atonement, forgiveness, justification, sanctification, and renewal as well as the intimately related Christological doctrines.

SIGNIFICANCE FOR LIFE AND MINISTRY: The ability to think theologically on the constellation of core Christian doctrines covered in this course is critical to the life of faith for ministers of every kind as they engage in proclamation, missions, evangelism, as well as tending to their own personal discipleship.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students completing this course will have demonstrated (1) a basic understanding of issues in their traditional and contemporary expressions; (2) an ability to reflect theologically upon the topics for this course; (3) skills towards developing one's own theology in critical dialogue with various views; (4) an acquaintance with a range of cultural and contextual matters that shape our understanding of theological issues; (5) an appreciation of ecumenical and cultural diversity.

COURSE FORMAT: This course meets daily from 8 am to noon from July 2 through July 13, with the exception of July 4.
