TC592A: THEOLOGY AND THE ARTS PROJECT COHORT (2 Units). Noel Snyder.
DESCRIPTION: Following upon the Theology and Arts Capstone course, this cohort
will meet during the development of the students' summative master's projects.
The master's project is an integrative and culminating portion of the MA-WTA,
MA-WMM, and MAT-TA degree programs. It provides students the opportunity to
carefully and reflectively integrate their course work with their particular
areas of artistic, ministerial, and/or cultural interest.
SIGNIFICANCE FOR LIFE AND MINISTRY: Whether students are preparing to be
theologically trained artists, cultural critics, or worship artists, their work
will depend upon their ability to integrate theology and practice. This course
will provide the cohort support for the discussion and development of student
master's projects.
LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students who pass this course will have demonstrated that
they
- recognize theological themes and issues relating to the production of
artistic and/or liturgical projects;
- can think critically and theologically in the production of their own
creative projects;
- can begin and plan for the completion of their master's project.
COURSE FORMAT: This course will meet every other week for two-hour periods,
beginning in the first week of the quarter. Course meetings will involve
student reports on their own reading and research, the development of their
projects, and cohort feedback on projects.
REQUIRED READING, LISTENING, VIEWING, AND RESEARCH: In consultation with
instructor, students will engage in 50 hours of approved research, preparation,
and execution of their projects.
ASSIGNMENTS AND ASSESSMENT: The final grade for this course will be determined
by
- Class attendance and participation in discussion (25%);
- Success in student presentations (25%);
- Indication of significant work toward the completion of the master's
project (50%).
(Note: students are allowed two quarters in which to finish
the master's project. Those not completing the project in the first quarter
will receive the grade Hold, with the final grade assigned after the second
quarter.)
