PM514: MISSIONAL CHURCH AND LEADERSHIP. Scott Cormode.
DESCRIPTION: This is an introductory course on biblical, theological, and
practical matters in missional ecclesiology and leadership. The work of lay and
clergy leadership is explored in relationship to congregation formation,
spiritual formation, and mission formation.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
- Greater commitment to participating in congregational life, worship, and
mission
- Increased understanding of the tasks of pastoral leadership
- Increased understanding concerning the centrality of worship in
congregational life and mission
- Increased skills related to the work of a pastor
- Increased clarity concerning one's own gifts and calling in relationship to
pastoral ministry
RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY: Concepts: theological studies in ecclesiology
and organizational development theory on leadership; Skills: theological
reflection and small group interpretative skills relevant to congregational
life and leadership.
COURSE FORMAT: The class will meet for three-hour sessions, once weekly, for
ten weeks. Each student will prepare weekly, 500-word reflection papers before
each class period. Class time will focus on lectures, discussions, and,
especially, case studies.

ASSIGNMENTS: There are three major assignments (each worth 1/3 of final
grade):
- Weekly 500-word papers
- A midterm
- An integrative final project
PREREQUISITES: None.
RELATIONSHIP TO CURRICULUM: Meets MDiv core requirement in Pastoral Ministry
& Theology (MIN 6) or the requirement in Ministry Foundations (MIN F) for
other master's degrees.
FINAL EXAMINATION: None.
