EV519: EVANGELISMO ENTRE HISPANOS [Evangelism among Hispanics]. Augusto Rodríguez.

DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to equip church leaders to develop effective evangelistic strategies for their church's distinctive ministry context. It seeks to emphasize that evangelism is through conversion rather than through transfer, establishing in this way a "culture of evangelism." Therefore, the class will provide a theological basis for evangelism and effective communication of the gospel in contemporary culture. It will provide students with tools to develop evangelistic strategies in order to plan personal, small group, and church-wide evangelism appropriate to their own context. We will also consider follow-up and incorporation of new converts.

COURSE OBJECTIVES/LEARNING OUTCOMES: After completing this course the student will be (1) able to provide a theological basis for evangelism and effective communication of the gospel in contemporary society; (2) able to develop a "culture of evangelism"; (3) familiar with different contemporary evangelism strategies; (4) able to analyze and apply the most suitable evangelism strategies for his/her personal cultural context; (5) able to develop and implement a strategic plan of evangelism culturally relevant to the student's church or ministry situation.

RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY: The main objective of this course is to help students learn how to do evangelism in a culturally relevant way. The course is designed for church leaders and/or lay people who understand their responsibility and have the passion for effective, culturally relevant evangelistic strategies to be developed in the local church.

COURSE FORMAT: The class will meet weekly for three-hour sessions for ten weeks. It will be a mixture of lectures, discussion, video and multimedia presentations, and possibly guest lecturers.
