CH573
Deiros
CH573: EL CRISTIANISMO EN AMÉRICA LATINA [Christianity in Latin
America]. Pablo A. Deiros.
DESCRIPTION:
- Christianity in Latin America is a rapid interpretative survey of
the history of Christianity in Latin America from the sixteenth century to the
present. The readings and class discussion are designed to present the major
persons, events, and movements in the history of Christianity in the Latin
American continent.
RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY:
- This course should enable students to think historically, that is,
to place characters and movements, as well as theological concepts and
literature, within a chronological and cultural context. The attempt will be
made to move beyond the what of church history, to the why and
wherefore.
COURSE FORMAT:
- This is two-week intensive course, which meets daily for four-hour
sessions. The course is arranged in two units: (1) the Planting of Roman
Catholic Christianity and (2) the Planting of Protestant Christianity. In each
unit, we will seek to relate historical data to contemporary issues and events.
The class will meet in a lecture-discussion format. Classes will be held in
Spanish. Emphasis will be placed in the development of Evangelical
Christianity, and time will be allowed for class discussion.
