LG561: THEOLOGICAL FRENCH II. Christine Peterson.


DESCRIPTION:

Building on the introduction provided by French I, this course is designed to prepare theological students to meet the French language requirements in the Ph.D. and Th.M. programs. It may also be taken for credit in the M.Div. and M.A. The course will concentrate on reading and translating selected passages from La Sainte Bible as well as the writings of French theologians.

COURSE FORMAT:
This course will meet for lecture, discussion, and translation practice twice weekly for two-and-a-half-hour sessions for four weeks. At the beginning of each class there will be a 10-minute pronunciation drill.

REQUIRED READING:
La Sainte Bible. Nouvelle version revised. Louis Segond.

Palmeri, Joseph and Milligan, E. E. French for Reading Knowledge. Heinle & Heinle Publishers, Inc., 1969.

ASSIGNMENTS:
Students will read and translate various passages from the above-mentioned books, as well as from various handouts.

PREREQUISITES:
LG557 French I, or permission of instructor. Transcript evidence of prior study required to audit this class.

RELATIONSHIP TO CURRICULUM:
Elective.

FINAL EXAMINATION:
Yes. This exam corresponds to the French qualifying examination for Ph.D./Th.M. students in the Center for Advanced Theological Studies who are required to take four units of this research language.
