OT506: OLD TESTAMENT EXEGESIS: JEREMIAH (HEBREW) (4 Units). J. Andrew Dearman.
DESCRIPTION: This course is an exegetical study of the book of Jeremiah, which includes translation and interpretation of selected passages of the Hebrew text, along with lecture and discussion of the basic themes of the book.
LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students successfully completing this course will have demonstrated (1) a fundamental knowledge of the content and structure of Jeremiah; (2) the ability to use resources that inform our understanding of the Hebrew text; (3) skill in translating and interpreting the prophetic text; (4) an ability to reflect theologically upon the central themes of the book for Christian faith.
COURSE FORMAT: The course meets once week in a 3.5 hour session over the ten week quarter for lectures and regular discussion.
REQUIRED READING: Approximately 1,200 pages total.
