Description: This two-quarter course is designed to introduce the student to the essentials of classical Hebrew grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. The student will also learn to use basic lexical and exegetical tools related to reading and interpreting Hebrew texts.
Significance for Life and Ministry: Hebrew offers students a first-hand relationship to the text of the Old Testament and gives them added resources for its interpretation.
Learning Outcomes: Students who have successfully completed the two-quarter course will demonstrate that they can (1) identify and parse the basic parts of speech in Hebrew (2) read Hebrew aloud, (3) translate biblical passages with the aid of a lexicon and concordance, (4) use a reference grammar and related sources to pursue more advanced grammatical and syntactical matters.
COURSE FORMAT: The class will meet for 3.5 hours on Tuesday evenings during the Fall and Winter Quarters.

Assignments:
1. Weekly reading, some memorization of paradigms, translation, and required attendance.
2. Weekly quizzes (50%). Make-up allowed for approved absences only.
3. Final examination (50%).
