FT515: MARITAL THERAPY (4 units: 160 hours). Terry Hargrave
DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to provide an overview of the
primary approaches to marital/couple treatment. The course will address
theories of marital interaction and two approaches to clinical treatment with
couples. Assessment and treatment issues regarding domestic violence will be
discussed.
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of how
to assess marital interaction related to family of origin and attachment
experiences.
2.
Students will learn how to assess and intervene in
couple conflict constructively.
3.
Students will demonstrate skills in building
marital relationships through therapeutic goals.
4.
Students will gain skills in applying a
theological framework to relationships and couple therapy.
5.
Students will demonstrate a thorough
understanding of two approaches to marital treatment.
6.
Students will gain an understanding of
the assessment and treatment of domestic violence.
7.
Students will gain an understanding of
diversity (cultural and sexual orientation) in working with couples.

health services to church and community.

COURSE FORMAT:
This 4 unit course will meet twice a
week for a total of 36 hours. Sessions will emphasize lecture, demonstration,
and discussion. Course evaluation will be based upon written assignments and a
final exam.
