FT551: Practicum for Counseling Emphasis. Anna Brennan, MA, Director of Clinical Training.

 

 

DESCRIPTION:

Students enroll in a total of 12 units of practica over a period of 12-15 consecutive months. During this clinical placement each student trainee engages in a minimum of 700 hours of direct therapy experience, at least 300 of which are direct client contact. Of these, 100 hours must be with children, couples, groups, or families. Students will also document 400 hours of indirect experience.

All practica are graded on a Pass/Fail basis. (2 or 4 units)

 

PRACTICUM FORMAT:

Each practica will be taken for 2 or 4 units until the 12-unit total has been reached. Students are expected to spend approximately 10 to 20 hours per week at their approved practicum site. The student is responsible for all policies and procedures delineated in the Practicum Manual.

ASSIGNMENTS:

A student must submit all the required forms, including the Weekly Summary of Hours of Experience, Live Mode Supervision Log, Trainee Evaluation, and Supervisor Evaluation each quarter. The End of Practicum evaluation must be turned in the last quarter of practicum or when a student’s clinical training at a site ends. These forms must be submitted to the Director of Clinical Training by Friday of finals week of each quarter. Students are required to have 300 client contact hours (face-to-face interaction) by the end of the practicum experience (150 hours must be marriage, family and/or relational issues), and 400 indirect hours. Ten hours of the supervision must be based upon live data (audio/video tape, live observation). A rating of 3 (satisfactory) overall on the quarterly Trainee Evaluation form is necessary for a PASS grade in practicum. Graduation may be withheld if these requirements are not met.
