FT534: Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Brie A. Turns, PhD, LAMFT

 

 

DESCRIPTION:

This course focuses on the theory, application, and research of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). This class will also address interviewing skills and the use of microanalysis to better understand the process of therapeutic dialogue. This course will also address how the Christian faith can be discussed as a resource and strength for clients while using SFBT.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have demonstrated:

1.       Demonstrate the use of solution building conversations.

2.       Explain the theory behind solution-focused brief therapy.

3.       Identify and explain the various applications of the SFBT manual.

4.       Demonstrate use of solution-focused techniques.

 

COURSE FORMAT:

This 4 unit course meets once weekly for lecture and discussion. There will normally be ten-minute breaks at appropriate points during class time.

5.       Final project covering readings and lecture (40%). [This assignment is related to learning outcome 1 &4]. [5 hours].

 

PREREQUISITES:

FS500 and FS514.
