FT530C: CLINICAL FOUNDATIONS III : ADVANCED SKILLS (2 units). Kim Bailey, DA, LMFT

 

 

DESCRIPTION:

This course focuses on the application of theory to case conceptualization and therapeutic practice. Students practice various assessment and family therapy techniques by participating as therapists in simulated marital and/or parent-child therapy sessions.

 

cOURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1.       Students will learn common therapeutic techniques and their application to case conceptualization, treatment planning and intervention.

2.       Students will gain core family therapy skills applicable to the different stages of family treatment, including beginning, middle and end phases.

3.       Students will learn to prioritize treatment goals, as well as create effective treatment plans and termination plans with clients utilizing a family systems perspective.

4.       Students will learn BBHE required paperwork to maintain professional, legal and ethical client files.

 

RELATIONSHIP TO SCHOOL AND SEMINARY LEARNING OUTCOMES:

This course will continue to prepare students to provide preventative and/or transformational mental health services, apply the insights of Christian theology along with the techniques of the social and behavioral sciences, and identify critical issues of diversity and make appropriate responses, and prepare them to pursue a career in marriage and family therapy.

 

COURSE FORMAT:

This 2 unit course meets for 2 hours weekly for 10 consecutive weeks and includes lecture, group discussion, experiential exercises, observation and role plays.
