ML 581: DEVELOPING YOUR LEARNING PLAN (4 units).

DESCRIPTION:

A global context requires leaders who understand reality beyond their respective national borders; accordingly, the formation and development of leadership must be reconceived. In this introductory course of the Master of Arts in Global Leadership, each (student) leader plays a significant role in their respective educational process as he or she develops a comprehensive learning plan for their entire degree program. Beyond individual learning, each leader experiences the benefits of both joining a diverse Christian community as well as enlisting in a like-minded group of practitioners in an online learning environment.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have:

·          Performed a learning needs assessment in conjunction with the student’s ministry community.

·          Practiced various habits of spiritual formation and identify resources to facilitate leadership development.

·          Performed tasks using online educational tools and methods.

·          Experienced learning from church and mission leaders of the non‐western world.

·          Reviewed various monastic ‘rules’ and decide on a common way of living for the cohort group.

·          Adopted a historically Christian perspective on leadership, practice, and learning.

·          Designed a comprehensive learning plan for the student’s Master of Arts program.

 

COURSE FORMAT:

The class will meet on the Internet using a 10-week lesson schedule aligned with Fuller’s academic calendar. Each week students and the instructor will interact with course material through journaling, threaded discussions, and web-based research.

ASSIGNMENTS:

1.        Weekly threaded discussions, journaling, web research.

2.        Book reviews, a learning needs assessment, agreement on a common rule.

3.        A 5,000-word learning plan which guides the student’s entire educational program. 

 

PREREQUISITES:

This course is only available to those who are accepted into the MA in Global Leadership. 

 

RELATIONSHIP TO CURRICULUM:

A required course for the Cohort portion of the MA in Global Leadership.  NO AUDITORS. 

 

FINAL EXAMINATION: None.
