TH569: DOCTRINE OF THE ATONEMENT. (4 Units: 160 hours). Oliver Crisp.
DESCRIPTION: This course is an elective course focused on the doctrine of atonement. It offers a critical engagement with key themes and texts in the development of the doctrine in Christian theology.
LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students completing this course will have demonstrated their ability to (1) analyze critically and assess the contribution of the authors studied to the doctrine of atonement; (2) offer a reasoned response to various proposals offered by these theologians in light of tradition and current intellectual milieu; and (3) begin to formulate their own systematic/constructive views on the atonement in light of this reading.
COURSE FORMAT: This course will be conducted online on a ten-week schedule aligned with Fuller’s academic calendar for a total of 40 instructional hours, which is outlined below in the assignment and assessment section. Students are required to interact with the material, with each other, and with the instructor regularly through online discussions, reading, and other assignments that promote active learning.
