GM538: MINISTRANDO EN UN MUNDO DIVERSO E INTERCONECTADO (Ministering in a Diverse and Interconnected World) (4 Units: 160 hours). Johnny Ramirez-Johnson.
DESCRIPTION: Examination of key aspects of human diversity, racism, intergenerational conflict and global migrations that are currently shaping the local church and its members will be studied. Social science approaches will be balanced and compared with biblical narratives and pertinent theological readings for securing approaches to ministry with a diverse global population. Theories of social sciences, biblical narratives, and theological readings will be explored in order to identify emergent models for addressing the needs of the local congregation and its individual members. Each student will work in developing a personalized model for dealing with a particular need they are currently facing in ministry.
LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon successful completion of this course, students will have demonstrated:
(1) an understanding of how ones adopted social sciences theories and theological points of view for defining normalcy, miracles, holiness, morals and sin guide ones, mission and ministry and may hinder or facilitate a transformational discipleship approach to ministry; (2) the ability to develop a biblical model integrating theories of social sciences for critically assessing how immigration and issues of generational diversity impacts the nature and mission of the church; (3) the ability to critically assess how gender and race/ethnicity philosophical views are impacted by immigration flux and generational conflict and how these views affect the nature and mission of the church for transformational discipleship, mission and ministry; and (4) The ability to develop a new approach to ministry addressing a single issue affecting a congregation under the student’s care.
COURSE FORMAT: This course will be conducted online on a ten-week schedule aligned with Fuller’s academic calendar for a total of 40 instructional hours, which is outlined below in the assignment and assessment section. Students are required to interact with the material, with each other, and with the instructor regularly through online discussions, reading, and other assignments that promote active learning.
