CH570: REFORMATION IN ENGLAND AND SCOTLAND (4 Units: 160 hours). Nate Feldmeth.


DESCRIPTION: This course will chart the history of Protestant Reformation in England from 1496 until the death of Queen Elizabeth I in 1603 as well as the progress of the Reformation in Scotland in the 16th Century. About two-thirds of the study will focus on the England, its key personalities and major theological movements, while the final third of course time will be devoted to Scotland’s key reforms and reformers.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students who complete CH570 will demonstrate: (1) facility in thinking critically about the key issues, theological ideas, major movements, and influential personalities that shaped the Protestant Reformation in Tudor England and in Scotland in the 16th Century; (2) a basic competence in interpreting this history and theology and an ability to evaluate these theological issues and their historical development; and (3) a critical and sympathetic appreciation for the breadth, unity, and diversity of the Christian church.

COURSE FORMAT: This course will be conducted online on a ten-week schedule aligned with Fuller’s academic calendar for a total of 40 instructional hours. Students are required to interact with the material, with each other, and with the instructor regularly through online forums and “live chat” discussions, reading, and other assignments that promote active learning.
