DESCRIPTION: This is a course on biblical, theological, and practical resources for creating a learning community in the context of ethnic diversity, particularly Latino diversity. Many aspects of a church's life and activities (worship, small groups, story telling, education, spiritual disciplines, leadership, engaging a context) will be viewed regarding their role in forming and equipping an intercultural congregation toward gospel faithfulness. Topics include ecclesiology and missiology, the relationship between personal and corporate formation, intergenerational and intercultural life, multiple intelligences, social construction, managing programs, and spiritual formation.
COURSE FORMAT: There will be online instructions in the weeks before and after the classroom meeting. During the online section of the course, students will interact with teacher and the course material through threaded discussions. The class will also meet for one weekend of classroom instruction. The live class time will be made up primarily of lectures, video presentations and class discussion. Please see course schedule for exact dates. Please note: Although this course is listed on the Pasadena, Menlo Park, and Houston schedules, this class is not counted for residency or any other purpose.

Weekly posts (250-400 words) reflecting on lecture/video/online activity and weekly response to a classmate’s post (150-200 words each) - (20%) [1-2 hours online activity/week; 2-3 hours posting/week].
In groups, develop a multifaceted curriculum that attends to diversity in congregational life (15%) [12 hours online activity].
A 12-Page final paper that follows the PT method and provides a curriculum for several church subgroups that deepens intercultural life and promotes engagement with context (25%) [12-15 hours preparing & writing].
PREREQUISITES: Spanish.
