MC500: CHURCH AND MISSION IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT. Osías Segura-Guzmán.

DESCRIPTION: This course serves as a broad introduction to the church in historical and contemporary contexts. Students will explore a broad variety of ecclesiological formations, exploring the nature of churches, their liturgies, communal life, and their mission in the world. In this course, students will begin to compare and contrast historical and contemporary churches with their own particular tradition.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students will (1) examine the global church through the study of local churches in their particular historical and cultural contexts; (2) cite their own relationship to churches outside their ecclesiastical tradition, examining their own assumptions in the process; (3) develop an understanding of the nature and mission of the church both theologically and sociologically.

COURSE FORMAT: This course will be conducted online on a ten-week schedule aligned with Fuller's academic calendar. Students are required to interact with the material, with each other, and with the instructor regularly through online discussions, reading, and other assignments that promote active learning.

REQUIRED READING: The student will read 1500 pages from the following texts, according to details provided in the Syllabus.
