ML530: LIFELONG LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT (4 units).
Frank D. Hankins, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Leadership.

DESCRIPTION:

This course explores the nature of Christian leadership development based on J. Robert Clinton's Leadership Emergence Theory. The course will explore how God shapes, deepens, and guides a leader over a lifetime for unique purposes. Development of a leader's life takes place (1) in the context of God's sovereign formative hand, (2) in the context of time, and (3) in context of a leader's response to God's formation. The course aims to provide viewpoints that enable students to gain perspective on their personal lifelong development as well as gain insights for assisting others in their development.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: By the end of this course, students will have
  1. acquired insights into how God has been shaping their life over a lifetime for unique purposes;

  2. become familiar with numerous Leadership Emergence concepts that are applicable to their own life and the lives of those whom they influence;

  3. done several developmental exercises aimed at facilitating personal leadership assessment including lifelong perspective, sense of destiny/calling, critical formative experiences, giftedness, suffering (desert seasons), and the integration of being and doing;

  4. generated a Personal Development Paper (8-10 pages) based on the developmental exercises (see objective #3) in order to integrate course learning;

  5. collaborated in a small group in order to generate a Developing Others Plan (10-15 pages) that enables the group to assist others in their personal development.

COURSE FORMAT:
The class will be conducted online using a 10-week lesson program aligned with Fuller's academic calendar. Each week students and the instructor will interact with the material through journaling, threaded discussions, and reflective assignments. The sessions include a time of spiritual formation and question and answer times, as well as further input on lifelong development concepts. There will also be small group activities to apply the concepts.
