ML536: VALUE-BASED LEADERSHIP IN THE NEW TESTAMENT (4 units).
Frank D. Hankins, Affiliate Assistant Professor of Leadership.

DESCRIPTION:

This course explores the New Testament as a vital resource for insights and values for our life, ministry, and leadership practice. Students will gain skills for personal replenishment from the Scriptures as well as learn to use a hermeneutical tool for accessing these transformational resources for a more sustainable vocation or calling.

The course builds upon the breakthrough insights of Dr. J. Robert Clinton in Bible Centered Leadership. Additionally constructs from Lifelong Development will be used. Bible Centered Leadership provides a framework for looking across the Bible (limited to the New Testament in this course) for perspectives on leadership formation, styles, models, dynamics, etc. This framework also includes several types of Scripture studies for leadership including biographical/narrative, across one Bible book, and macro-lessons across several books. An equipping paradigm will be surveyed that includes the four areas for engaging Scripture: contemplative/reflective, study of "core" (signature) materials, contextually-driven research, and familiarity reading. Students will interact with each other concerning one Bible character as well as complete the study of one New Testament book for leadership insights. Students will choose either Philemon or Titus for their book study.
