FI500. INTRODUCTION TO INTEGRATION. Cameron Lee. 2 units.

DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this online course is to provide students with an orientation toward the task of integration that is centered in ones personal integrity as a Christian and a practicing therapist. Lectures propose a model of integration that is grounded in the students own personal, spiritual, and vocational development, set within the context of relevant theological constructs. The core emphasis is an understanding of therapy grounded in the call to relational peacemaking, which includes the clinical virtues of humility, compassion, hospitality, hope, and a personal approach to spiritual selfcare based on a reappropriation of the discipline of Sabbath.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

Students who successfully complete the course will be able to articulate the relevance of the clinical virtues to their practice with families.

RELATIONSHIP TO SCHOOL AND SEMINARY LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course is designed to support the SOP learning outcome that students will demonstrate the ability to provide excellent preventative andor transformational mental health services to church and community. The course also supports the seminarywide learning outcomes of students being able to understand Christian theology, ministry, and spirituality, and pursue careers consistent with their education.

COURSE FORMAT

The course is largely asynchronous; video lectures will be available through the course Canvas page, and written reflection assignments will be due weekly. This applies to all students enrolled in the course, regardless of location. Students will also participate in discussion groups, as follows:

Pasadena: Students will be assigned to required asynchronous discussion groups in which all group members first post their own responses to a prompt, then post comments related to another group member’s response. Optional asynchronous meeting with the instructor for open discussion will also be available; participation in these latter discussions will not be factored into the course grade.

Phoenix: Arizona students will participate in two synchronous meetings which will be held on Saturdays. These meetings will be comprised of both student breakout groups, and large group discussions with the instructor. There are no asynchronous discussions involved.
