MO506: HEALING PRAYER IN INTERCULTURAL MINISTRY (4 units: 160 hours). John Jay Travis.

DESCRIPTION: One of the world’s most basic prayers is for healing. As recorded in Scripture, healing of bodies of souls was an essential part of the ministry of Jesus and of the early church. This course explores the theory and practice of healing prayer with particular emphasis on its application in cross-cultural contexts (i.e., intercultural ministry). The approaches to prayer taught in the course deal with prayer for healing for emotional wounds, painful memories, freedom from demonic oppression as well as physical healing. Numerous case studies and prayer models will be covered in class. The primary aim of the course is to equip students with a biblical framework and practical skills to be able to pray for healing with sensitivity, power and insight in multiple cultural contexts.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: (1) Students will develop a biblical foundation for the ministry of healing prayer; (2) students will develop an awareness of healing prayer as a global issue and its application in various cultural contexts; (3) students will be able to lead a healing prayer session using the principles and practices taught in the course; and (4) students will explore ways to integrate this type of prayer into their own ministries.
