DESCRIPTION:  This course explores Christianity’s first two thousand years with a primary focus on the inherent dynamic that propels cross-cultural transmission and the critical elements that have defined the experience and expressions of the faith in successive heartlands. Five core issues will guide the discussion: the translation principle, or indigenous appropriations and vernacular expressions of the faith; the agents and agencies of missionary expansion; major movements of reformation and renewal; interaction with other major faiths; and causative factors in the periodic shifts or

extermination of the faith.본 과목을 통해 기독교의 처음 2000 년을 돌아 보되, 기독교의 어떤 고유한 힘을 통해 문화를 뛰어넘는 전달이 이루어졌는지, 그리고 차례적으로 나타난 기독교 여러 기독교 중심지들에서 신앙의 경험과 표현들을 형성하게 된 결정적 요소들은 어떠한 것인지에 대해 중심적 초점을 두고 공부하게 된다.  다음과 같은 5 가지 주요 논쟁점들이 수업 내용과 토론의 방향을 제시하게 된다: 번역의 원리, 혹은 신앙의 토착적 사용방법이나 원어적 표현; 선교적 확장내 주된 행동자들과 대리기관들; 개혁과 부흥의 주요 운동들; 다른 종교들과의 상호관계; 그리고 기독교 신앙의 시대적 변화의 큰 움직임이나 소멸등에 관심을 가지고 보게 된다

LEARNING OUTCOMES:  Students who complete MH506 will demonstrate: (1) a basic historical and theological knowledge of the Christian story as it finds it home in each continent; (2) a basic competence in interpreting and evaluating this history and theology noting the interplay of Gospel message and local contexts, specifically local cultural and religious contexts; (3) a critical and sympathetic appreciation for the breadth, unity, and diversity of the Christian church and ability to explain the development of different beliefs and practices historically; and (4) a basic knowledge of diverse Christological and Trinitarian formulations from the first millennium of Christian history.  본

COURSE FORMAT:  The class will be conducted online using a 10-week schedule aligned with Fuller’s academic calendar for a total of 40 instructional hours, which is outlined below in the assignment and assessment section. Each week, students are required to interact with required reading materials, with each other, and with the instructor through online PowerPoint lectures, Required Readings, and other assignments that promote active learning, as well as weekly 2 hours of synchronous class meetings for presentations and discussions.
