ML560: CHANGE DYNAMICS (4 Units: 160 hours). Peter L Lim.


DESCRIPTION: The course explores the concepts and practices of leading change in organizational, community, political, social, and global settings. The purpose of change in each context is examined with theories and practices of leadership.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students will (1) evaluate the purpose of leading change in each setting; (2) connect the concepts of leading change to practices; (3) apply appropriate theories of leadership and change to various contexts; (4) investigate how contexts intersect to achieve change in more than one setting.

RELATIONSHIP TO PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES: Electives fulfill MAICS PLO4 "Students will have demonstrated capacities to pursue vocations that engage the mission of God globally," and MAT PLO4 "Students will have demonstrated academic capacities appropriate to an area of focus in a theological discipline or to interdisciplinary theological study."

COURSE FORMAT: This course will be conducted online on a ten-week schedule aligned with Fuller’s academic calendar for a total of 40 instructional hours, which is outlined below in the assignment and assessment section. Students are required to interact with the material, with each other, and with the instructor regularly through online discussions, reading, and other assignments that promote active learning.

ASSIGNMENTS AND ASSESSMENT:

  1. 1,200 pages of required reading (10%). [This assignment is related to learning outcome #1, 2 & 4] [70 hours].
  2. Weekly DLAs: Practical application of theory with interaction through videos, posts, and reflective activities with the 250-word weekly forum posts and the follow-up 250-word weekly forum responses. (40%). [This assignment is related to learning outcome #1 & 2] [40 hours].
  3. Reading Analysis Assignments: Two 500-word critical analysis papers on selected chapters in Schuyler et al (10%). [This assignment is related to learning outcome #1 & 4]. [10 hours].
  4. Identify a desired personal change to implement this term based on key learnings from the course and write a 1,000-word paper integrating ideas from the course that were most insightful in implementing the change (10%). [This assignment is related to learning outcome #3]. [10 hours].
  5. Final Assignment: It has two parts. A 500-word proposal and a 2,500-word paper applying and adapting concepts and practices to understanding the strengths and weakness of a specific planned organizational change effort of your choice (30%). [This assignment is related to learning outcome #2, 3 & 4]. [30 hours].

PREREQUISITES: None. Auditors are required to complete all assignments.
