SP581: PRACTICUM IN SPIRITUAL DIRECTION. Elizabeth Patterson.


DESCRIPTION:

A practicum course covering the application of the concepts of spiritual direction to field settings.

RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY:
This course will serve to enhance the skills and understandings of the practice of spiritual direction at an introductory level.

COURSE FORMAT:
The total practicum (SP581/582/583) will meet weekly for a nine-month period, for specific training and practice in the basic skills of spiritual direction. SP581 (Fall) will meet in conjunction with SP501, The Spiritual Life.

REQUIRED READING:
Course readings will be handouts. Reading will be limited as this is a practicum course.

ASSIGNMENTS:
  1. Course attendance is required.

  2. Weekly reading as assigned.

  3. Completion and self-evaluation reports for all practicum experiences; approximately five papers each quarter.

PREREQUISITES:
Students must be accepted into the Spirituality/Spiritual Direction concentration.

RELATIONSHIP TO CURRICULUM:
Meets concentration requirement for Spirituality/Spiritual Direction concentration of M.A. and M.Div. (SP581 = 1 unit).
