LG563: GERMAN III. Peter Bach.


DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to deepen the knowledge of theological students in the reading of intermediate and advanced texts. Ideally, one or several key German theologians would be studied, and their scholarship in the form of journal articles and/or books would be carefully keyed to each student's research interests or to recommendations of their major professors.

RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY:
Scholarly access to vast theological literature written in German and largely untranslated.

COURSE FORMAT:
The course will meet weekly for two hours for lecture, discussion, and practice. A two-hour homework assignment will be given after every class meeting.

REQUIRED READING:
Works of a major German-speaking/writing theologian to be decided by class.

RECOMMENDED READING:
Die Bibel (Reviderter Text) Stuttgart: Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft, 1975.

ASSIGNMENTS:
Regular assigned reading. A two-hour homework assignment will be given after every class meeting.

PREREQUISITES:
LG562, Theological German. Transcript evidence of prior study required to audit this class.

RELATIONSHIP TO CURRICULUM:

FINAL EXAMINATION:
Yes. Two written translations and one sight passage (two-hour length).
