LG502A: BEGINNING HEBREW. Marian Steinberg.


DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to provide a basic knowledge of the phonology, morphology and syntax of biblical Hebrew through the study of material from the Hebrew Bible and from The Authorized Daily Prayerbook. Students will acquire facility in using the Hebrew dictionary and the Hebrew Bible.

RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY:
Anyone involved in explicating a lifestyle and thought system that is ancient is best equipped by understanding the ancient media; one of them is Hebrew.

COURSE FORMAT:
The class time will involve a presentation/explanation of new grammar, reading in Hebrew, address of problems encountered in the homework.

ASSIGNMENTS:
A schedule of assignments will be distributed on the first day of class. This class assumes considerable study from the students who are expected to attend with the lesson prepared. The final grade depends on class participation, quizzes, major exams, and a final.

PREREQUISITES:
None.

RELATIONSHIP TO CURRICULUM:
The first of two quarters, both of which are required to meet the M.Div. core requirement in Hebrew (HEB).
