FE502: FULL-TIME INTERNSHIP. Patterson.


DESCRIPTION:

An approved, planned, full-time, supervised, evaluated, practical experience under the supervision of a pastor/supervisor in a church, para-church, or institutional setting, leading to the development of competencies in specialized areas of ministry as well as overall exposure to pastoral skills.

RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY:
This course offers practice and education in the tasks and skills of professional ministry in the local church or in a para-church organization.

COURSE FORMAT:
Upon satisfactory completion of the prerequisites, the student begins the internship process by enrolling with the Field Education Office. The internship itself is defined through the Learning Agreement, which is a statement of learning goals agreed upon by the intern and the Pastor/Supervisor and approved by the Field Education Office. Students enrolled in this course will be involved in ministry in a church/institutional/para-church setting approved by the Field Education Office for at least 35 hours each week for a period of 10 weeks. The student and supervisor will submit evaluations at the end of the course (due Friday of the tenth week of the quarter).

ASSIGNMENTS:
  1. Completion of the Learning Agreement by the supervisor and the intern by the end of the second week of the quarter.

  2. Submittal by the supervisor and student of evaluations which are due by the end of the tenth week of the quarter.

  3. Interview with the Director of Field Education at the conclusion of the internship.
Note: Those students involved in remote (outside of the greater Los Angeles area) or foreign mission internships must mail the Learning Agreements and evaluations in sufficient time that they reach the Field Education Office by the required due date or be post-marked by such time to avoid reduction in grade.

PREREQUISITES:
Participation in the Preparatory Workshop prior to actual involvement in the Internship.

RELATIONSHIP TO CURRICULUM:
Elective. This course is offered credit/no credit. Meets non-core graduation requirement for the M.Div. degree or an elective for the M.A. degree.
