LG512C: BEGINNING READINGS IN NEW TESTAMENT GREEK (4 Units: 160 hours). Young Park.


DESCRIPTION: This course is the third quarter of Fuller’s introductory Greek sequence. Students will read Greek texts from across the New Testament, increasing their skills in reading and translating.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Having successfully completed this course, students will have demonstrated the ability (1) to translate from the Greek NT using appropriate tools; (2) to translate NT passages of varying authorship, difficulty levels, and genres; (3) to defend translation decisions; and (4) to explain the function of various noun, pronoun, adjective, and verb forms.

COURSE FORMAT: This class meets once per week for three hour sessions for a total of 30 hours of classroom instruction for lecture and discussion plus 10 hours of directed learning activities for a total of 40 instructional hours.

ASSIGNMENTS AND ASSESSMENT:

  1. Reading and review of selections from Greek Grammar beyond the Basics [This assignment is related to learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4]. [35 hours].
  2. Weekly translation of the Greek NT (10%) [This assignment is related to learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4]. [50 hours].
  3. Weekly vocabulary and translation quizzes (20%) [This assignment is related to learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4]. [5 hours].
  4. Textual Analysis Project [Directed Learning Activities] (20%): Students will translate a NT passage of their choice, and write an essay (ca. 1000 words) that discusses translation issues in the selected passage, and defends their translation decision [This assignment is related to learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4]. [10 hours].
  5. Mid-Term (20%) [This assignment is related to learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4]. [15 hours].
  6. Final Exam (30%) [This assignment is related to learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4]. [15 hours].

PREREQUISITES: LG512A & B or placement by examination.
