LG512: INTRODUCTION TO NEW TESTAMENT GREEK (8 Units: 320 hours). W. Gil Shin.


DESCRIPTION: This one-quarter intensive course first introduces students to the basic grammar of biblical Greek as well as a small working vocabulary and then turns to reading texts from across the Greek New Testament to cultivate skills in reading and translating.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Having successfully completed this two-quarter sequence, students will have demonstrated the ability to (1) read aloud in Greek and to write legibly in its standard script; (2) recognize and translate from memory the 320 most common words in the Greek NT; (3) identify (i.e., to parse) various forms of articles, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, and verbs; (4) understand and explain basic Greek grammar and syntax; (5) translate from the Greek NT using appropriate tools, and (5) translate NT passages of varying authorship, difficulty levels, and genres.

COURSE FORMAT: This class meets twice weekly for four-hour sessions for a total of 80 instructional hours in the classroom for lecture and discussion.
