LG512: INTRODUCTION TO NEW TESTAMENT GREEK. Renee Dutter Miller.

DESCRIPTION: This one-quarter intensive course first introduces students to the basic grammar of biblical Greek as well as a small working vocabulary and then turns to reading texts from across the Greek New Testament to cultivate skills in reading and translating.

SIGNIFICANCE FOR LIFE AND MINISTRY: A working knowledge of the original language of the New Testament will equip students with tools for informed interpretation of the Bible. Students who successfully complete this course should, with the use of various resources, be able to consult the Greek text as part of the exegetical task, which in turn will enhance their own study of the Bible, teaching, and sermon preparation.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Having successfully completed this two-quarter sequence, students will have demonstrated the ability to (1) read aloud in Greek and to write legibly in its standard script; (2) recognize and translate from memory the 320 most common words in the Greek NT; (3) identify (i.e., to parse) various forms of articles, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, and verbs; (4) understand and explain basic Greek grammar and syntax; (5) translate from the Greek NT using appropriate tools, and (5) translate NT passages of varying authorship, difficulty levels, and genres.

COURSE FORMAT: The course meets three times each week for four-hour sessions.
