ST580: ECCLESIOLOGY AND THE KOREAN/KOREAN-AMERICAN CONTEXT (Taught in Korean). Eun Kyoung (Esther) Kim.


DESCRIPTION: This course discusses Christian beliefs about the church--its nature and mission, worship, sacraments, and ministry as formulated from the Reformed tradition and contextual perspectives. A particular emphasis will be on examining the socio-economic and cultural context as well as current issues in the Korean/Korean-American church.

COURSE OBJECTIVES/LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students completing this course will have demonstrated (1) a basic understanding of ecclesiology; (2) an acquaintance with the socio-economic and cultural context of the Korean/Korean-American church; (3) an ability to reflect theologically upon the current issues in the Korean/Korean-American church for which ecclesiology is pertinent; (4) skills towards developing one's own theology in one's own context; (5) an appreciation of ecumenical and cultural diversity.

RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY: Students will be prepared to do ministry as they learn to think theologically on the issues of faith and ministry in their own context.

COURSE FORMAT: The course will meet weekly for three-hour sessions of lectures and discussions.
