DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to provide an internship in a church, parachurch, or institutional setting that will assist the student in developing competencies in the ministry of evangelism.

This course offers an introduction to the tasks and skills of ministry as an evangelist whether as a full-time evangelist, Minister of Evangelism, or a pastor who is concerned about developing evangelistic outreach in a congregation.

The student begins the internship process by contacting the Office of Field Education for preregistration materials and instructions on arranging an internship. An internship site should be selected with the approval of the instructor. The course has three primary components: practical ministry, supervision, and theological reflection. The student spends at least 35 hours each week for ten (10) weeks in the church, parachurch, or institutional setting involved in specific ministry assignments agreed upon by the supervisor and student, and approved by the instructor and the Office of Field Education. One hour each week is to be spent with the approved on-site supervisor. The agenda should address a) professional direction, evaluation, and overseeing of the student's ministry; b) theological reflection and discussion of topics related to ministry as identified by the student and supervisor; c) support and prayer.

1. Completion of the Learning Agreement by the supervisor and the intern to be turned in to the Office of Field Education by the end of the second week of the quarter.

2. Completion of final evaluations by the supervisor and student to be turned in to the Office of Field Education by the end of the tenth week of the quarter.

None. However, note that a setting for the internship experience and the selection of an approved supervisor must be arranged, and approved by the instructor and by the Office of Field Education prior to registering for the internship. Also, the student must participate in a Field Education Preparatory Workshop prior to actual involvement in the internship.

Meets the requirement for the M.A. in Evangelism degree. Meets the FE2 Field Education requirement for the M.Div. (MIN 7). This course is offered pass/fail for two units.

None. Evaluation is based on completion of the internship as specified in the individual learning agreement and on completion of assignments as listed above.
