ST502: SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY 2: CHRISTOLOGY AND SOTERIOLOGY. Marèque Ireland.

DESCRIPTION: This course provides a theological understanding of fundamental Christian beliefs concerning the person and work of Christ and of the Holy Spirit. The course will explore topics such as salvation, atonement, election and healing and the interrelated nature of these and other doctrines associated with Christology and Pneumatology. We will examine their historical and biblical foundations and how they developed within the greater Christian tradition, and then situate these doctrines in contemporary discussions, including present day intercultural and ecumenical perspectives.

SIGNIFICANCE FOR LIFE AND MINISTRY: A solid theological foundation that includes an understanding of the biblical, historical and contemporary contexts for Christian doctrines is essential for personal spiritual development and for the life of the Church.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: By the end of this course, students will have developed (1) a basic understanding of issues in their historical and contemporary expressions; (2) an ability to reflect theologically and critically upon the course topics; (3) skills towards developing one’s own theology in critical dialogue with various views; (4) an acquaintance with a range of cultural and contextual matters that shape our understanding of theological issues; (5) an appreciation of ecumenical and cultural diversity.

COURSE FORMAT: This course meets as a five-weekend Saturday intensive, for a total of 30 classroom hours. The course will include lectures and discussion.
